abstracts for the AbGradCon2010,
organized as the foremost astrobiology meeting for early-career researchers in Tällberg, Sweden (June 14-18).
This conference aims to create an ispiring comfortable environment for early career scientists to present and learn about the
latest developments in astrobiology, to create networks and to forge new collaborations worldwide. The conference will comprise
oral and poster presentations, half-day workshops and a one-day field trip to geologically instructive sites in the
astrobiologically interesting Siljan impact crater.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
For graduate students and early career scientists (up to 5 years after first Ph. D.)
that are selected talk and poster presentations full funding for accomodation and meals as well as trave bursaries are available.
More information on the conference, as well as the abstract submission can be found on the
event's website

Message to the astrobiology community: Nicolas Glansdorff Orbituary
"A few weeks ago, Nicolas Glansdorff, accidentally passed away while hiking alone through Norwegian Lapland. Hiking was a pastime he had loved throughout his life, and he had a passionate interest in the Arctic region, having traveled from Alaska to Siberia. Nicolas was fond of places such as this where humans are confronted with the harshness of nature, and he especially enjoyed living this experience as a solitary hiker.
He was Professor Emeritus at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Originally trained as a botanist, he soon switched to bacterial genetics, and later to the microbiology of extreme environments.
To his students, colleagues and friends, he was the essence of a learned man, one who inspired trust. With his charm and wit, in his teaching, he brought to life the mechanisms of evolution and theories on the origin of life. An expert at combining poetry and philosophy with extreme scientific rigor, he led his audience to profoundly contemplate the mechanisms that sustain life on our planet and possibly elsewhere! He will be deeply missed by microbiologists around the world."
